DISC brakes are used front and rear on the C-class, ventilated at the front and solid at the rear. On four-cylinder models, the front discs measure 288mm diameter - six-cylinder models are 300mm - and, at the rear, 278mm compared to 290mm for the sixes. Newly developed "sliding-calliper" front brake callipers are made from high-strength cast iron, while the rear uses fixed-calliper brakes with a twin-piston system. Anti-lock brakes and other brake-assist and stability control systems are also provided.
