A FIVE-SPEED automatic transmission is the sole transmission available on the C220 CDI. It features adaptive shift control, a lock-up torque converter and one-touch sequential manual gear selection. Once in position D, the driver can change gears manually by moving the gear lever left (for a downchange) or right (upchange). If the driver moves the selector lever to the left for longer, the driving range changes to the gear selected by the automatic transmission. Similarly, the auto will over-ride manual gear selections if it deems the resultant revs too high and will downshift if the car comes to a halt.
