PERHAPS the greatest mechanical improvement in the W203 C-class is its new rack-and-pinion power-assisted steering, which is both well geared and weighted, and offers more precision and feedback than its recirculating ball predecessor. The multifunction steering wheel itself remains typically large-diamter and of a four-spoke design, but is now thicker-rimmed and more tactile in the driver's hand. There are 2.8 turns lock-to-lock.
