IN traditional Mercedes fashion, the new C-class retains its quirky foot-operated parking brake, which operates via drums on the rear wheels. The standard braking system comprises single-piston callipers all round, plus ventilated front brake rotors and solid rear units, assisted by ABS and Brake Assist. Typically soft European-spec brake pads ensure plenty of black brake dust finds its way onto the C180's wheels.
