MERCEDES had its go-fast A-class on show at the Sydney motor show this month, the A200 Turbo, which will reach the showrooms in December priced from $44,400.

Available as a three-door model only, and based on the Avantgarde trim level (with some extra sports features thrown in), the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo model produces 142kW (up 42kW over the normally aspirated 2.0) and 280Nm (up a whopping 95Nm), and is claimed to reach 100km/h from standstill in 7.5 seconds.

Also spiced up is the recently launched A-class line-up with a sports package which includes 17-inch light-alloy wheels, sports suspension, a tyre-pressure warning system, a unique grille and sporting-themed pedals, gearshifter, steering wheel and instrument cluster.

In the A170 Avantgarde, A200 Elegance or A200 Avantgarde model, the sports pack costs $1550. The A170 Classic and Elegance can also be optioned with the sports pack for $3150 and $2150 respectively.

A-class customers can also now order a fixed panoramic sunroof ($1400) and sports seats ($1000).

A-class pricing starts from $29,990 for the A150 manual Classic and tops out at $44,400 for the A200 turbo.
