THE Mercedes-Benz A190 addresses the main perceived shortcoming of the A160 - a lack of grunt. The performance injection provided by the larger 1.9-litre engine serves to enhance the positive attributes of the A160 - a competent car in itself. In general, the A-class has won acclaim for its pioneering design, which provides high safety levels and generous interior space within compact dimensions. Adding to the A190's appeal is the fact that it is keenly priced, costing only slightly more than the Audi A3 1.8 five-door.
