Mercedes-AMG celebrates 55 special years

MERCEDES-AMG will celebrate its 55th anniversary in 2023 with a trio of commemorative limited-edition models based on the A45 hatch, CLA45 four-door coupe and G-Class off-roader.

Wearing the Edition 55 moniker, each of the three models score additional features and “eye catching enhancements”, says Mercedes-Benz Australia, the A45 S 4Matic+, CLA45 S 4Matic+ and G63 Edition 55 variants expected to be “snapped up quickly”.

For the A45 S 4Matic+ Edition 55 ($115,800 plus on-road costs), the Mercedes hot shop has added an AMG aerodynamics package with reprofiled front apron and larger front splitter, additional flics, an AMG rear wing, deflector elements bookending the rear bumper and a diffuser blade painted in high gloss black.

It also features 19-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels finished in matte grey and model badges on the boot lid and wings in high gloss black, as well as the choice of Cosmos Black or Digital White metallic paint and Edition exterior decals.

Internally, the A45 Edition 55 is identified by contrasting red and black upholstery including the sports front seats and steering wheel, the latter trimmed in Dinamica synthetic suede with Edition 55 badging.

Further interior garnish includes AMG door sill panels with red illumination and black AMG floor mats with Edition 55 woven lettering plus AMG trim elements in dark brushed aluminium with accents in black and red and an AMG logo.

Finally, the A45 S 4Matic+ Edition 55 includes AMG Real Performance Sound, which pipes a “subtly sporty sound” inside the cabin and its own customised indoor car cover.

The CLA45 S 4Matic+ Edition 55 mirrors the A45’s equipment and feature list, but with a list price of $136,900 plus on-road costs.

Both the A45 S 4Matic+ Edition 55 and CLA45 S 4Matic+ Edition 55 are mechanically unchanged from their respective donors.

Moving up a few sizes to the G63 Edition 55, the addition of the Night Package and Night Package II further enhance what Mercedes-Benz says is “an already dynamic appearance”.

The treatment includes gloss black finishes for the front splitter, trim elements on the louvres in the outer air intakes, inserts in the AMG side sill panels, beltline trim strips, window line trim strips and wing mirror housings.

Its tailpipe trims are finished in black chrome, while model badges on the boot lid and wings are in high gloss black as per the A45 and CLA45 duo.

Matte carbon-fibre trim elements and the addition of AMG 22-inch cross-spoke forged alloy wheels are complemented internally by an AMG Performance steering wheel in Dinamica microfibre and Nappa leather seats finished in red and black.

The model is otherwise mechanically identical to its derivative variant and is available now priced from $394,991 plus on-road costs.
