MAZDA Australia has announced the addition of a limited-edition variant to the revised RX-8 sports car range that goes on sale here from January.

Called RX-8 Revelation, the unique Mazda will join an updated RX-8 range that features three new colours (Phantom Blue, Galaxy Grey and Snowflake White Pearl), plus a number of interior upgrades.

Just 100 examples of the six-speed manual-only RX-8 Revelation will be made available - in either Copper Red or Brilliant Black paint colours - priced at $64,570.

The luxury-oriented RX-8 Revelation also features sand-coloured Alcantara seat trim with contrasting stitching and dark silver alloys, along with unique foam-filled cross-members for improved ride and handling, a power sliding glass sunroof and a Smart keyless entry and engine start system - the first time Mazda Australia has offered such technology.

Interior features include semi-gloss interior highlights, a leather-trimmed handbrake lever, front and rear leather armrest console lids, Piano black transmission tunnel and steering wheel bezel finishes and chrome-look exterior lighting bezels.

RX-8 Revelation buyers will also receive a Rotary Revelation watch valued at $950, in either men’s or women’s style.

Like regular RX-8 variants, the Revelation features 18-inch alloy wheels and tyres, traction control, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), six airbags, cruise control, power windows/mirrors, limited-slip differential, six-CD in-dash audio system and climate control air-conditioning.

As with range-topping RX-8 variants, RX-8 Revelation also boasts Xenon headlights, a Bose premium sound system, power-operated driver’s seat, front foglights and drilled aluminium pedals.

Meantime, revisions to the full-time RX-8 raneg include the deletion of the back plastic cover on leather seats, a smooth finish on the leather seat side bolster in lieu of previous ribbed finish and a semi-gloss finish on the interior chrome application (including meter ring, air-conditioning dial, air vent grille ring, airvent louver knob, shift base ring and rotary bezel in seat headrest).

The Bose sound system gains Bose ornaments on the door trim speaker grills, while the automatic leather pack model will also receive alloy pedals, which have been standard on the manual version since launch.

RX-8's 654cc x 2 Renesis rotary engine continues to offer 177kW (ECE) of power at 8200rpm and 211Nm (ECE) of torque at 5500rpm when mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, and passes Euro Stage III emission standards.
