The changes are minor, restricted to a new front bumper, a sleeker headlight design in the style of the current Mazda RX-8 and revised tail-lights.
Keen drivers are likely to appreciate the raised engine speed at maximum power from the 2.0-litre twin-cam unit, which also boasts a sportier engine note to match its greater acceleration response.
The six-speed manual gearbox has come in for attention, with improvements to the synchromesh and shift action for smoother gearchanges.
Mazda has lowered the front roll centre and retuned the suspension for more precise handling and roadholding, while the company claims to have also managed to improve the ride at the same time.
More refinement can also be found inside, thanks to better sound-deadening materials in the front suspension and roof, while stiffer door modules and newly added reinforcements cut overall noise intrusion into the cabin.
Mazda will also introduce an improved Bose audio system and seat heater, along with a trip computer for average fuel use and outside temperature display, and the option of Bluetooth connectivity.
Australian sales are scheduled to commence in April next year.
