INITIALLY the MX-5 came with unassisted steering, but Mazda gave way eventually by adopting power assistance for the rack and opinion system. It is a quick-responding setup with just 2.6 turns from lock to lock and cuts a tight 9.2 metres from kerb to kerb for easy manoeuvring in tight parking situations.
