A ROLLING-CODE immobiliser is the MX-5's primary defence against theft. A lockable compartment in the transmission tunnel is provided, however it's not exactly Fort Knox and breaking into it would give thieves access to the fuel and boot remote levers ... and the cup holder! A choice of two alarms is available as an option, both featuring a proximity sensor which aims to protect the vehicle with the top up or down. The more sophisticated optional alarm includes a battery, backup siren and bonnet switch.
