Third-generation Mazda6

Mazda launched the final major update for its third-generation Mazda6 sedan and wagon range in June 2018 that ushered in exterior styling tweaks, a totally new dash and centre console, more standard gear and a new engine option.

Still available in 14 model grades, the Sport was available exclusively with the naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre petrol engine, while the Touring came with that engine and the updated 2.2-litre turbo-diesel unit.

Higher grade GT and Atenza variants were powered by the same 170kW/420Nm turbocharged petrol engine from the CX-9 seven-seat SUV, and the diesel.

Mazda also added more insulation and employed other measures to reduce cabin noise – a bugbear of practically every Mazda model.

The car-maker upped the standard spec list across the board, resulting in $3000 worth of extra value in the Sport and Touring.
