MAZDA is now a sales monster in Australia, a predator that strikes fear as easily as some of its vehicles evoke admiration. And that’s with its existing technology. From today, on the strength of the all-new SkyActiv drivetrain fitted to the Mazda3 SP20, we foresee the Japanese car-maker really inflicting damage, ushering in incredible efficiency to an already well-rounded proposition. In fact, while the fresh engine and gearbox combo suddenly highlighting some shortcomings in the ageing small car, it also reveals how incredibly well armed Mazda is in taking on premium as well as mainstream rivals. Especially once the all-new SkyActiv-chassis models make it to market, beginning with the 2012 CX-5.
