Sydney show: Mazda CX-7 surfaces

With prices expected to start at $45,000 for the entry model, rising to just under $50,000 for the Luxury, the CX-7 is sure to lure SUV buyers to the Mazda fold looking for something bigger than the Tribute.
The CX-7 is powered by a version of Mazda’s turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-litre four-cylinder direct-injection engine (MZR 2.3 DISI), which also powers the Mazda6 MPS and Mazda3 MPS.
Mating to a six-speed automatic gearbox, the CX-7 produces 175kW and 350Nm at 2500rpm.
Based on the MX-Crossport concept shown earlier this year at the Melbourne International Motor Show, the CX-7 is claimed to have ample space for five occupants. The rear seat is a 60/40 split-fold to increase cargo space.
Standard features will include stability and traction control, and dual front, side and head-protecting curtain airbags.
Apart from the CX-7, Mazda is previewing the BT-50 ahead of its December on sale launch. The BT-50 replaces the long-serving Bravo range of utilities.
It will offer the choice of two common-rail turbo-diesel engines of 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre capacity.
The Kabura concept and the new Mazda6 diesel launched last week are also on show.
