Mazda keeps concepts rolling with Hakaze

MAZDA this week unveiled its latest design concept – the Hakaze – ahead of its official debut at the Salon International de l’Auto in Geneva next month.

Joining the Nagare shown in Los Angeles last November, and the Ryuga shown in Detroit last month, the Hakaze is the third in a series of design concepts that highlight Mazda’s all-new styling direction, which is known as "Nagare".

This latest concept is in the form of a four-seater crossover SUV and, well, we should leave it to Mazda to explain the rest...

"Even when standing still, Hakaze seems to be effortlessly cutting through the air. Outside, the side body panels are textured to give the impression of sand dunes rippled by the wind and the body shape creates a muscular and taut look.

"The rear part of its roof is removable which gives it a feel similar to a roadster. The interior seat layout is unique, as the rear seats slide forward with their lower cushions under the front seats to produce a spacious luggage compartment." A fourth design concept is due at the Tokyo motor show in October.
