NISSAN MAXIMA 4D SEDAN (1990-2001)
WELL received when first launched but has been overtaken by others in its class in terms of style and performance. Front- wheel drive powered by a multi-point, fuel-injected, 2970cc V6 driving through a four-speed auto. Anti-lock brakes, air- conditioning, cruise control, alloy wheels, central locking, power front seats/steering/windows and a radio/cassette are standard.

HOLDEN STATESMAN 4D SEDAN (1991-1994)
THE home grown product loses nothing in comparison with its rivals in terms of performance and equipment. Low tech but effective 3.8-litre, V6 engine with four-speed auto driving the rear wheels. Alarm system, cruise control, central locking, power steering/windows, six-speaker sound system and independent rear suspension standard.

FORD FAIRLANE 4D SEDAN (1991-1992)
WELL developed long wheelbase Falcon derivative with a 3.9-litre, multi-point fuel-injection engine driving the rear wheels through a four-speed auto. Mark I model (to 1992) has air- conditioning/climate control, alloy wheels, cruise control, limited slip differential, power steering/windows, radio/cassette and self-levelling suspension. Mark II also has anti-lock brakes, power mirrors and a trip computer.

AUDI 100 4D SEDAN (1989-1991)
TECHNICALLY different with a five-cylinder, 2.3-litre engine driving the front wheels through optional three-speed auto or five-speed manual. Refined with crisp handling and solid feel but limited room. Air-conditioning, cruise control, central locking, power steering/windows and a radio/cassette are standard.
