THE return of the SP tag to 323 introduces a 2.0-litre engine, suitably aggressive body adornments and a collection of sporty decals and features inside. It brings with it the general 323 facelift, which includes reshaped headlight clusters now with integrated turning and hazard warning lamps, a simplified front bumper and Mazda's five-point corporate grille. Bolstered front seats and a Nardi steering wheel help with driver satisfaction, but a genuine grin only comes after a challenging stretch of road where the engine and handling improvements are fully realised.
