MAZDA'S 121 favours box-like lines and space efficiency rather than the organic bubble look that characterised its predecessor. The benefits are immediately obvious once inside the car for there is surprising passenger and luggage space, given the tight external dimensions. The rear seat isn't exactly generous on legroom for tall people but they still get a better deal than would normally be expected in this category. Mazda updated its 121 in March 2000 with a minor facelift that brings it into line with the latest corporate look and adds a refurbished interior with a new instrument panel.
