WITH an automatic transmission finally available on Mahindra’s XUV500 mid-sized SUV, the Indian industrial giant – and world’s largest tractor-maker by sales volume – is ready to take on the Australian market.

Generously specified and somehow packing a spacious seven-seat leather-upholstered interior into a Honda CR-V-sized footprint and price point, the XUV500 looks good on paper.

On the road we were pleasantly surprised, but the noise and lack of refinement let it down.

Mahindra is ready for the Australian market, but is the Australian market ready for Mahindra?
