First look: gun Lotus chassis for hire

BY TERRY MARTIN | 17th Mar 2005

LOTUS Engineering unveiled its Versatile Vehicle Architecture (VVA) at Geneva, its latest work in the area of aluminium under-structures which is designed to hand car manufacturers and consortiums an off-the-shelf platform for their own new product.

Drawing on Lotus’ experience with bonding and extruded aluminium, the structure uses high-pressure die-cast corner nodes that can allow different vehicle configurations off the one platform.

Also underpinning Lotus Cars’ forthcoming range of sports cars, VVA has the potential to produce such vehicles, from the one common platform, as a front-engine 4WD, mid-engine rear-drive sports cars and a front-engine rear-drive coupe or sedan.
