The LX470 is powered by a 4.7-litre V8 petrol engine which drives through a full-time, dual-range, four-wheel drive system

Front suspension is fully independent, comprising a double wishbone setup with stabiliser bar

The live rigid rear axle is suspended by a five-link panhard rod with four trailing arms and long travel coil springs

Active height control varies the body height through 120mm at the front and 110mm at the rear to provide better ground clearance off-road

Anti-lock brakes on four-wheel discs operate even in low range with the centre differential locked

A four-speed automatic transmission is standard

The standard leather-trimmed interior has seating for eight people with the driver and front passenger seats getting electric adjustment

The centre console houses a six-stack CD player and refrigerated box to keep drinks cold

Windows, mirrors, sunroof and rake and reach-adjustable steering column are all power-operated

A dual climate control air-conditioning system has separate controls and ventilation ducts for rear passengers

Centre and rear differential locks help to get to those out-of- the-way places

High mounting of the engine air intake in the front driver's side wheel-arch allows a fording depth of 700mm

Dual front airbags and electronic seatbelt pretensioners offer good passive safety levels
