First look: Lexus LF-C showcases style and technology

BY NEIL MCDONALD | 18th Oct 2005

The LF-C is the perfect showcase for the type of styling language we’ll see in future Lexus vehicles.

The sleek hardtop convertible uses an electric hardtop roof that transforms the car from a coupe to a convertible at the touch of a button. The roof disappears flush with the boot.

The vehicle is built on a large rear-wheel-drive platform and is powered by a high-output, front-mounted V8 engine mated to a six-speed sequential automatic.

The LF-C features a futuristic and sleek interior, with drive-by-wire steering and Formula One-inspired gearlever and steering wheel.

Displaying breakthrough interior design, the car’s dashboard gauges are stacked along the steering column axis, ascending toward the base of the windscreen. A dynamic and flowing centre console, in a solid tapered form, runs the length of the interior.

Displays and controls are hidden beneath this transparent console surface that is multi-layered, which creates a sophisticated, high-tech look and feel.
