Lexus continues EV teaser campaign

LEXUS has continued the teaser campaign for its as-yet-unnamed electric concept vehicle, which will foreshadow the first standalone EV model from the Japanese luxury brand.

 

Due for a reveal sometime in the local autumn, the mystery concept car will be followed by the production version which will be uncovered later in the year.

 

While little is known about the forthcoming concept, a series of darkened teaser images provides some hints as to its design, with an overall shape that suggests a sedan or coupe and styling elements consistent with Lexus’ current design language.

 

From the front, an LED daytime running light (DRL) strip in the shape of a tick is visible, with a similar design to that seen on the LS sedan.

 

Matching the DRL signature is an electric interpretation of Lexus’ signature spindle grille, with what looks to be horizontal louvres on the outside of the grille and a filled-in front section, indicative of its zero-emissions powertrain underneath.

 

The central Lexus badge is also illuminated, while wheelarch bulges on the bonnet help to give it a sporty, menacing look.

 

From the back, the concept looks to have a dynamic shape with a wide hipline and wheel track that extends beyond the roof and cabin.

 

A large ‘LEXUS’ badge is visible across the rear, while the tail-lights look to have a narrow signature helping to give the rear end a flat, wide look.

 

Few other concrete details remain surrounding the new concept, other than it will use Lexus’ Direct4 electric drive control system designed to provide a responsive and dynamic driving experience.

 

Direct4 also aims to promote ride comfort and quietness, both hallmarks of the Lexus brand.

 

Lexus International president Koji Sato said the new concept would embody the future direction for the brand.

 

“This year, Lexus will take a new step forward in aiming to make the diversified lifestyles of our customers more rewarding,” he said.

 

“This Spring (US time), we will unveil our new brand vision, along with a new concept, which illustrates our intentions for the future and marking the beginning of the next generation of Lexus.

 

“Furthermore, we will launch the first model under our new vision within this year, and we will continue to introduce new models next year and beyond.”

 

To go with the EV teaser, Lexus Australia also announced it had sold its 30,000thhybrid vehicle in 2020, having first offered the electrified powertrain technology on its RX large SUV back in 2006.
