THE iconic Range Rover faces its toughest challenge against newer, capable rivals such as the Lexus LX470, Mercedes M-class and the imminent BMW X5. As well as that, owner BMW has to deal with poor customer satisfaction in the vital American market. To this end, worthwhile engine, drivetrain and cabin improvements have enhanced the Range Rover, and will see the five-year-old Mark2 through until an all-new, BMW-based replacement lands on our shores sometime in 2001.
