Land Rover adds anniversary options to Discovery

BY RICHARD BERRY | 13th Jun 2014

LAND ROVER is offering buyers of its 2015 Discovery, due in November, the option of adding features from its XXV Special Edition Discovery that went on sale locally last month to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its all-wheel drive hero.

The offer will be available to 2015 Discovery buyers from November, however, Land Rover Australia says prices are yet to be announced.

The XXV already adds spec to the HSE variant, including 20-inch five-spoke forged alloy wheels, black grille surrounds and mirror caps, silver roof rails, stainless steel bumper and scuff plate, plus XXV badges on the front door and tailgate.

There is also a choice of four paint colours for the XXV – Indus Silver to commemorate the Discovery’s jubilee, Causeway Grey, Santorini Black and Fuji White – but the 2015 Disco will also add new colours to the palette including Aruba, Kaikoura Stone and Montalcino Red.

Inside the $109,900 XXV customers have a choice of three leather interior options – ebony, cirrus, or a dual tone ebony/cirrus. Added to this is twist pile carpet and a leather wrapper wooden-steering wheel and dual tone leather seats.

Adaptive Xenon headlights with automatic high-beam assist, daytime running lights and keyless entry complete the edition.

The 2014 Discovery is available with a choice of three engines, including a 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre petrol V6, and a pair of diesels – a 155kW 3.0-litre TDV6 and the more powerful 183kW 3.0-litre SDV6.

Pricing starts from $69,200 plus on-road costs for the TDV6 and top out at $96,200 for the HSE.

The first-gen Discovery went on sale in 1989 and the latest iteration – the Discovery 4 lobbed in 2009.

The Indian-owned British marque has plans to expand the Discovery beyond the nameplate to become a sub-brand in its own right incorporating the Freelander replacement and the next-gen Discovery.

Land Rover has sold 1018 Discos so far this year, which is a 10.2 per cent increase over the first five months of 2013, but it trails the Range Rover Evoque (1164 units) and Sport (1103) for overall sales in 2014.
