Lamborghini updates Huracan

BY DANIEL GARDNER | 12th Nov 2015

LAMBORGHINI has treated its smallest supercar to a mid-life update, with efficiency boosting technology as standard and extra luxury options for both the coupe and recently revealed Spyder.

All 2016 versions of the little raging bull will now have emissions-reducing cylinder deactivation and a tweaked four-wheel drive system for no extra cost, while a broader range of options is available for those with more cash to splash.

Coupe pricing is unchanged at $428,000 before on-road costs, while drop-top Spyders will roll out in the second quarter of 2016 for $470,800.

With the new economy boosting cylinder deactivation, five of the Huracan's ten cylinders are shut down under light loads, effectively running on a 2.6-litre in-line five cylinder, but when the full 449kW is required, the other bank reactivates “instantaneously”.

Lamborghini has not confirmed an updated fuel economy figure with the new technology, but says CO2 emissions have fallen from 290 grams per kilometer to 283g/km.

In addition to the engine update, the refreshed Huracan's four-wheel-drive transmission has also been fettled to provide a more “neutral” feel, particularly when in Strada mode – the least aggressive of three vehicle dynamics settings.

The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and 5.2-litre 560Nm V10 are otherwise unchanged by the mid-life update, and the Italian car-maker says the cylinder deactivation is “virtually impossible to detect”.

Huracan owners wanting to set their vehicle apart from others on the road have an extended list of individual options with the update, including more colour and trim choices.

As standard, interior door handles and parts of the centre console are leather upholstered, while the airvents are decorated in matte black.

Customers opting for items on the Ad Personam options list have the choice of heritage colours and matte paint finishes, a Sensonum 390-watt 10-speaker sound system, and LED lighting in the engine bay to show off the mid-mounted motor when combined with a transparent cover.

The shoutier sport exhaust option is now available with gloss black tailpipes when specified with the style package.
