Lamborghini confirms super-Gallardo

GOOD news has arrived for those who fancy Lamborghini’s 368kW 5.0-litre V10-powered Gallardo coupe but reckon its Porsche 911 Turbo-matching 309km/h top speed isn’t quite fast enough.

The Italian supercar company last week confirmed it will produce 250 versions of the hottest Gallardo ever, capable of sprinting to 100km/h in just four seconds (two tenths quicker than the regular Gallardo) and on to a top speed of 315km/h.

To be available in Europe by September in an exclusive two-tone exterior paint colour, the Gallardo SE achieves its extra pace not by producing more power, but via a six-speed transmission that features shorter ratios for the first five gears.

The limited-edition Gallardo variant also handles with new-found precision thanks to more direct and precise steering, as well as standard sports suspension and Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres.

The all-wheel drive Gallardo SE also offers an exclusive new interior featuring colour-matched piping and stitching, plus Lamborghini shields embossed on the driver and passenger seat head restraints. There will also be a standard rearview camera.

All Gallardo SEs will be identified by a special plaque embossed with a unique build number, while six two-tone paint scheme options.

Among other SE identifiers are new "Callisto" wheels complemented by coloured grey or yellow brake callipers, tinted tail-lights and a black finish on the bonnet, front and rear spoilers and side mirrors.

Like all Gallardos, the SE is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive, a six-speed gearbox, stability control, anti-lock brakes and air-conditioning, plus twin front and side airbags.

Australian allocation is still to be confirmed.
