First look: Kia's new mini on-show

BY MALCOLM LIVERMORE | 8th Sep 2003

KIA will unveil not only the looks of its new mini-car at the Frankfurt motor show this week, but also its name.

Currently codenamed "SA", it is tipped by European media to be called the "Picanto" or "Visto".

SA replaces the Pride as Kia’s entry level car and we will see it here in mid-2004. The previous Pride was sold in Australia as the Ford Festiva.

Engines for Europe are 1.0 and 1.1-litre, but in Australia expect the larger of the two to be offered.

Kia claims class-leading space for the five-door SA, including 157 litres of storage space with the rear seats up and 882 litres with them down.

But there’s a "mobility system" rather than a spare tyre which helps create that space.

The Kia SA has an overall length of 3495mm, width of 1595mm and height of 1480mm.
