RATHER than plump for the standard MacPherson struts, the Optima quite unusually has a double wishbone front suspension system, combined with a multi-link rear-end design - also with coil springs and an anti-roll bar. Passive rear steering is also designed into the rear suspension. This takes the natural forces that would normally seek to throw the car off-line and turns them into a counter-balancing and correcting self-steering effect. Or so the theory goes.
