First look: Kia gives sneak peek of new MPV

BY JAMES STANFORD | 9th Feb 2009

KIA has released a teaser image of a new mini people-mover it will uncover at the Geneva motor show next month.

It is believed to be the first Kia designed from the ground up by its new star designer and former Audi stylist, Peter Schreyer.

Kia is giving away few details of the car, which is reported to have the internal codename of YN.

It will be presented as a concept car, but there is little doubt that it is close to production.

Kia has stated the new model will redefine the MPV genre.

It describes it as “a great looking MPV” which will be “cool and spacious”.

The only detail Kia has confirmed is that the new model will have a unique glass roof.

It is understood the new MPV is smaller than the Cee’d hatch (similar to the Hyundai i30 sold here), and is based on the same platform as the Soul hatch.

Kia is already well established when it comes to people-movers, with the mid-sized Rondo and larger Grand Carnival already on sale in Australia.
