Kia adds value with Limited Edition Cerato

BY TERRY MARTIN | 17th Aug 2009

SEVEN months after Kia launched its second-generation TD-series Cerato small car in Australia, the South Korean marque has introduced a Limited Edition offering a claimed $1200 in extra value for no additional cost.

Based on the Cerato S Option Pack manual and priced from $20,990, the LE adds 15-inch five-spoke polished alloy wheels (with 195/65-section tyres), a chrome grille and front and rear floor mats. A four-speed automatic gearbox is available for an additional $2000.

All Cerato models use a 2.0-litre ‘Theta II’ petrol engine producing 115kW of power at 6200rpm and 194Nm of torque at 4300rpm.

The option pack brings traction control and steering-mounted stereo and cruise control switchgear, while standard-issue items across the Cerato include no fewer than six airbags, ABS brakes with EBD and brake assist, anti-whiplash front head restraints, air-conditioning, electric windows/mirrors, an MP3-compatible stereo (with USB and iPod connectors) and remote central locking.

Despite the high level of equipment and positive reviews, the Cerato has not quite managed to meet Kia Motors Australia’s sales target of 250 units a month, averaging 205 a month year-to-date.

Over the same period, Hyundai has sold about 200 more Elantras and 10,500 more i30s, both of which also compete in the small-car segment.
