THE Wrangler is powered by a 3960cc, in-line six-cylinder engine, the same Powertech unit found in the original Grand Cherokee. It is no technological marvel, using pushrods and two valves per cylinder, but develops 130kW at 4600rpm and a grunty 290Nm of torque at 3600rpm. It can be heavy on fuel with actual figures likely to be higher than the official 12.5L/100km for the city cycle (manual) - especially when driving off-road. The fuel tank capacity - an aspect every 4WD enthusiast should be mindful of - is 72 litres.
