AN ANSWER to a question that no one asked? Such is the lot of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT range, joined here by an optioned-up limited-edition sibling known as the Night.

It is, after all, a three-tonne SUV that can rattle off 0-100km/h in under five seconds and run a 400m sprint in 13.1 seconds. It howls like a werewolf that’s been stung by a wasp, and it wouldn’t look out of place at the scene of a drive-by.

And yet, there’s an odd rightness about this very epitome of political incorrectness, and Australian buyers love anything that’s fast and frivolous.

Does the world need an almost-$100k monster motor SUV? Of course not, but we’re glad it exists.
