WHILE accusations that Jaguar jumped on the SUV bandwagon with a little help from close friend Land Rover are probably correct, the British brand has still produced an undeniably premium product with its F-Pace luxury crossover.

However, it wasn’t all about a technical leg-up into the world of all-wheel-drive wagons that came as the surprise but Jaguar’s F-Pace looks like, drives like and is kitted out in the Jaguar mold, adding only more cabin space and competent off-bitumen ability to broaden its audience.

It walks into a room full of prestige-car rivals from Porsche, Jeep and Lexus to BMW. With that much competition, the F-Pace does offer an alluring alternative, but it doesn’t win on all counts.
