FOR nine years in a row Hyundai has dominated proceedings at the prestigious International Forum (iF) Design Awards, this year taking out a staggering 19 places, including gold for its Ioniq 6 electric car.

Spread across Hyundai Motor Company, its marketing unit, and Hyundai Motor Group, ‘Hyundai’ won a total of 19 awards across product, professional concept, interior architecture, communication, user experience and user interface categories.

Topping the list was the new Ioniq 6 battery electric vehicle which took gold in the product category. Hyundai says the car’s aerodynamic design reflects its customer-centric commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, with iF judges praising the vehicle’s aesthetic.

“(The Hyundai Ioniq 6 offers) a fresh and unique exterior aesthetic with subtle motifs that are carried over into a serene and relaxing interior,” the panel commented.

“Its overall design identity is based on deep commitments to comfort, style, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.”

The Ioniq 6 was joined in the product category by the seventh generation Granduer, which also recently took out a Red Dot Award for design.

The jury also recognised Hyundai’s Ioniq lifestyle character items in the product category for “connecting the brand to the customer’s daily life”.

The impressive N Vision 74 “rolling lab” concept took home an award in the professional concept category, alongside the indoor/outdoor delivery service robot. The robot is equipped with Hyundai’s Plug & Drive (PnD) module that combines an in-wheel motor, steering, suspension, brake system and environmental sensors into one.

Also in the professional concept category, the jury recognised Hyundai’s autonomous driving solution, while several other robotics-based mobility solutions – including MobED, PnD L7 and PnD Mobility – were also honoured.

In the user interface category, the jury tapped Hyundai’s new connected car navigation cockpit Seon system, which was first introduced in the latest Granduer. The system was praised for its design and “flat graphic components” that are said to “harmonise with the vehicle’s overall user interface”.

For the interior architecture category, the jury praised Hyundai’s 2022 CES Exhibition Booth, while in the communication category the Korean firm’s marketing arm took home trophies for its creative efforts related to the launch of the Ioniq 6 and the Ioniq 5 Robotaxi video which forms part of Hyundai’s autonomous driving technology campaign.

In the communication and user experience categories, iF’s judges honoured Hyundai’s extended reality content related to the online Ioniq 6 Digital Studio, while also awarding honours to the company’s corporate website.

“We are honoured to be recognised as a lifestyle mobility brand that forges strong emotional connections between people and vehicle by bringing more value to our customer’s everyday life,” said Hyundai executive vice president and Hyundai Global Design Centre head, SangYup Lee.

“Our global design team was worked hand-in-hand with our engineers to inject passion and knowledge into every product, concept, venue and interface with the aim of sharing our brand’s values.
