THE Sonata joins Santa Fe and Trajet in adopting the bigger bore 2.7-litre version of Hyundai's all-alloy, quad cam, 24-valve "Delta" V6 engine. This gives an extra 5kW and an extra 15Nm, lifting peak power and torque to 132kW at 6000rpm and 245Nm at 4000rpm respectively. The V6 features four-point hydraulic mounts, repositioned for better noise suppression, a 60-degree cylinder bank angle, pent-roof combustion chambers, sintered metal conrods and bearing caps, hydraulic lash adjusters and two knock sensors.
