All Sonatas are now powered by a 2493cc 24-valve twin-cam V6 engine that outputs 127kW at 6000rpm and 230Nm at 3750rpm. Developed in-house, the all-aluminium engine features four-point hydraulic mounts, 60-degree bank angles, pentroof-style combustion chambers, hydraulic valve lash adjusters and two knock sensors. Claimed performance figures put the V6 to 100km/h from rest in about nine seconds. Fuel consumption points to 10.5L/100km for the official city cycle, 6.6L/100km highway.
