SONATA is available with a five-speed manual transmission for the first time, or a four-speed electronic automatic with lock-up torque converter. The automatic is all-new and uses a "fuzzy logic" technology which adjusts its shift pattern according to the driving style and terrain. It uses a feedback loop to improve shift quality and fuel economy. The manual gearbox has a new clutch and improved feed-in, feed-out characteristics.
