THE LaVita is available as either a five-speed manual or (optional) four-speed automatic with both versions positioning the gearlever on the dash. As in the Elantra sedan and hatch models, the manual transmission is claimed to benefit from an improved shift action with double cone synchronisers between the first three gears and keyless synchronising on first to fourth gears. The automatic, meanwhile, features HIVAC (Hyundai Intelligent Vehicle Electronic Control) fuzzy logic which optimises gearshift points and speed according to driver style and terrain, including skipping ratios on downshifts. The auto also has torque converter lock-up on third and fourth gears.
