Accent on the A-League

HYUNDAI Motor Co Australia (HMCA) has introduced a limited “A-League” version of its Accent small car, trading on its naming-rights sponsorship of the premier soccer competition in Australia.

Restricted to three-door hatchback model variants, and starting from $17,990 (depending on the colour choice and transmission), the A-League Accent has a range of sports-oriented additional equipment including 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, 205/45-section tyres, front foglights, “metal grain” centre console treatment, and sports front seats with orange cloth trim and black leather bolstering.

The A-League edition is offered in three exterior colours – black, grey and red – and customers are being encouraged to also personalise their car with the A-League team of their choice via special badging on the car.

Accessories can also be ordered with the edition, including a full bodykit, A-League-branded carpet mats, and a chrome exhaust tip.

The five-speed manual A-League Accent in “Ebony Black” starts from $17,990, rising to $18,290 for the metallic “Tango Red” and “Midnight Grey”. The four-speed automatic transmission adds $2000.

“With the Hyundai A-League season in full swing, we are proud to welcome the Accent A-League to the Hyundai team,” said HMCA marketing general manager Oliver Mann.

“The Accent is a talented and reliable player for us, and the A-League limited edition is sure to be another huge hit with the fans.”The regular Accent three-door is priced from $15,490 for the base S model variant, and from $16,990 for the SLX.

HMCA has been the naming-rights partner of Australia’s national soccer competition since it was recast as the A-League in 2005. At the sponsorship announcement in November 2004, Hyundai said it would invest more than $10 million in the game over four years.

The Australian sponsorship provides a local link with the parent company’s partnership with FIFA, which includes the World Cup series through to 2014.
