HYUNDAI went to work on improving the shift quality of its criticised manual transmission through using a new weight damper on the shift lever, plus a larger 3-4 synchroniser ring. Shift quality is still not good. The electronically controlled four-speed automatic, however, picks up significant improvements with adaptive shifting that avoids "hunting" tendencies by allowing lower gears to be held when the throttle lifts off on ascents.
