THE Accent's 1.5-litre engine is a development of the Excel's powerplant, which was the first all-Hyundai automotive engine to go into production. The "Alpha" powerplant uses twin camshafts and 16 valves to produce more power and torque, for fewer rpm. Changes include new intake camshaft profiles, larger intake valves, improved flow inlet and exhaust ports, altered ignition timing, a larger air intake with a longer inlet manifold, and work on reducing internal friction and mass.
