THE Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) conducted crash tests on a number of light commercial utility vehicles in February, 2002. Although the Maloo itself was not tested, the Commodore Ute on which it is based was subjected to the testing procedure. It performed better than its competitors and was awarded a four-star (75 per cent) rating, which placed it just ahead of the Falcon Ute, while the Japanese models - Toyota HiLux, Holden Rodeo and Mazda Bravo/Ford Courier - were given a three-star rating. HSV models are traditionally fitted with fire extinguishers and the Maloo models are no different.
