IT SHOULD come as little surprise that one of the most sought after sportscars ever produced in Australia, is not technically a sportscar, but a ute.

The humble utility has not only become a favourite for people buying in the family car segment, it is also a top pick for V8-loving performance car nuts who don’t need the space to carry more than just them and a loved one.

Ford’s XR8 and Holden’s SS utes are icons of the local industry, but they are, sadly, not long for this world.

This may be one of the reasons HSV’s bonkers 430kW/740Nm GTS Maloo was a hit before it was even officially confirmed by Holden’s go-fast division.

Whatever the reason, the locally built ute is going out with a very loud, ear-thumping bang, and we reckon the GTS Maloo is a perfect tribute to an Aussie icon.
