TYPE-R's high-revving 1797cc DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder produces an impressive 141kW at 7900rpm and 178Nm at 6300rpm. It uses Honda's VTEC system, which works via a special camshaft arrangement which actuates high-lift lobes above 6000rpm. Claimed 0-100km/h figures put the R at 6.7 seconds, though independent tests have been about a second slower. City fuel economy figures point to 9.0L/100km, but the car uses premium unleaded.
