FRONT ventilated discs and rear drum brakes are used on the Insight. Weight reductions were achieved with the use of aluminium front brake callipers and aluminium rear drums with cast-iron liners. Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution are also fitted standard. During braking, the electric motor acts as a generator in order to recharge the integrated power unit's battery pack. This energy is usually wasted during conventional braking.
