THE Insight's primary power source is a 1.0-litre 12-valve inline three-cylinder engine that features a new variation of Honda's renowned VTEC variable valve timing system and achieves ULEV (ultra-low emissions vehicle) status. Additional power assistance under certain conditions is provided by a 10kW electric motor - see the Electric Systems section for more information. Requiring premium unleaded, the petrol engine produces 56kW at 5700rpm and 113Nm at 1500rpm. Claimed fuel consumption is an outstanding 3.6L/100km on the city cycle and a miserly 2.8L/100km on the highway.
