HONDA isn’t so much late to the compact SUV party as somebody who’s returning to the scene.

It helped get the ball rolling back in the late 1990s with the original boxy HR-V, then left before anybody arrived due to very poor attendances.

Now, nearly 15 years later, it’s swinging along nicely, so the Japanese brand is back with what is shaping up to be one of its most competitive models in recent history.

The second-generation HR-V is a thoroughly thought-out and effective piece of kit, with enough appeal for it to be the life of the crossover shindig.
