CR-V has a transversely mounted inline four-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels under normal operation, but can also send torque back to the rear wheels when front wheel slip is detected. Honda's Real Time 4WD system mechanically connects drive to the rear axle via a multi-plate clutch housed in a rear differential.
