A NEW, compact five-speed manual transmission finds its way into the new Civics, while there's also a new four-speed automatic with a lock-up torque converter that operates over a greater speed range for improved economy. It also utilises grade logic control to minimise 'hunting' between gears on hills and the auto is actually capable of downshifting as the car approaches a corner, or when it is being driven downhill. For the five-door, the shifter is located on the dash, where it easy to reach and allows greater floor space.
